The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that he will discuss the issue of the recall of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova, only with officials of his country.
Zelenskyy said this during an interview for Fox News.
The journalist asked the president whether he plans to recall Oksana Markarova, Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, at the request of the speaker of Congress because of Zelenskyy's trip to Pennsylvania.
"I am the President of Ukraine, and I can discuss our ambassadors only with the speaker of my country. You know, this is the constitution, and I cannot discuss it with speaker Johnson, with all due respect," Zelenskyy answered.
Zelenskyy noted that he does not regret the trip to Pennsylvania. According to him, it had nothing to do with the U.S. election campaign. The President emphasized that Ukraine should not be involved in the election of the United States, because it can be dangerous and threatens to lose the support of both political parties.
Recall that Zelenskyy's visit to the U.S. turned into a loud scandal, due to which the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, appealed to the President of Ukraine with a demand to immediately dismiss the ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, due to alleged interference in the American election.
The speaker accused Markarova of having organized Zelenskyy's visit to a plant in Pennsylvania where weapons are produced for Ukraine. Zelenskyy was accompanied by representatives of the Democratic Party, but no Republicans were invited. Johnson said that Zelenskyy's visit was "clearly a partisan campaign event designed to help Democrats and is clearly election interference.”
