Hezbollah representatives confirm death of their leader Hassan Nasrallah

Al-Manar TV, a broadcaster close to the Lebanese group Hezbollah, has confirmed the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah as a result of an Israeli strike on Beirut on September 27.

"His eminence, master of the resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away as a great martyr," the group said in a statement.

Hezbollah also added that they will " continue the path of jihad against the enemy, in support of Gaza and Palestine, and in defense of Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people."

The statement did not mention who would succeed Nasrallah or how the group would respond to the killing of its longtime leader.

Background: Sayed Hassan Nasrallah is the third secretary general of the Lebanese Shiite political party and paramilitary organization Hezbollah. He assumed the post after the assassination of his predecessor, Abbas al-Musawi, by IDF forces in 1992.

During the military confrontation between Israel and Hezbollah from July 12 to August 14, 2006, the Israelis tried to establish the exact location and capture or eliminate it, for which they landed in southern Lebanon, but this operation was not successful.

After the war, Nasrallah was constantly in a secure bunker located in a secret location in southern Lebanon, fearing a surprise attack by Israeli intelligence services.
