North Korea has enough uranium to build dozens of nuclear warheads – media

South Korean intelligence believes that North Korea has probably been able to enrich enough uranium to build dozens of nuclear warheads. This shows Pyongyang's progress in its efforts to develop more powerful bombs and missiles.

As The Associated Press writes, South Korean officials were informed about this by representatives of the country's intelligence service.

The day before, a closed parliamentary briefing conducted by the National Intelligence Service was held in Seoul. According to the agency, North Korea most likely has about 70 kilograms of plutonium.

The country also possesses an unspecified but significant amount of weapons-grade uranium, which will be enough to create "at least a double-digit number" of warheads.

The briefing comes after North Korea showed a rare glimpse of a secret weapons-grade uranium production facility earlier this month and its leader Kim Jong-un reiterated his aim to build up his nuclear weapons stockpile.

Kim's disclosure of information about the facility is most likely designed to demonstrate his military achievements within the country amid deepening economic difficulties, according to South Korean intelligence.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in May 2024 it became known that russia had sent specialists to North Korea to help launch North Korean satellites.
