The aggressor country russia is increasingly using guided aerial bombs ("glide bombs") in the war against Ukraine, which have a high destructive power and cause great destruction to Ukrainian forces on the battlefield, as well as to cities on the front line.
Reuters reported this.
Last week alone, the russian occupiers dropped more than 900 guided aerial bombs on Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. He has repeatedly called on Western partners to allow long-range strikes on the airfields where the planes that launch these guided aerial bombs are based.
Guided aerial bombs. What kind of weapon they are
Guided aerial bombs are conventional munitions, often Soviet-era, fitted with wings and satellite-aided navigation to extend their range and precision. Guided aerial bombs are cheaper than the ballistic and cruise missiles with which russia regularly fires at Ukraine, and they have great destructive power. Their weight is from 500 kg to 3,000 kg. The occupiers often launch these aerial bombs beyond the range of Ukrainian air defenses. Thanks to their power, they can ravage even the strongly fortified Ukrainian defense positions.
Experts believe that the best option for Ukraine would be to destroy the russian warplanes that drop this type of weapon, rather than to intercept individual bombs that have just been released.
This week, a Ukrainian delegation led by President Zelenskyy is in the United States to insist on forcing russia to make peace, Reuters reports.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 30, the russian occupation forces hit Kharkiv with modified UMPB D-30 guided air bombs, as a result of which seven people were killed.
On September 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the russian occupiers are releasing at least 100 guided aerial bombs in Ukraine every day.
On September 24, russian terrorist forces used guided aerial bombs (glide bombs) to attack densely populated areas of Kharkiv.
