Danylo Hetmantsev, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy, assures that an increase in taxes will be enough to cover the budget deficit in 2024, but new needs may appear next year.
He told about this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.
"So far, the position of the government is that the tax changes that we voted in the first reading are enough. But we have to remember not only the needs until the end of the year, but also for the next year, where we still do not have 100% certainty about attraction of all the amounts of foreign aid that we will need," he said.
According to him, now there is no reason to increase the VAT rate, but the authorities do not rule out that such a decision may appear in the future.
Hetmantsev noted that only the government can be the author of the proposal to increase the VAT rate.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Hetmantsev is convinced that there is no alternative to raising taxes in the current situation.
