Uman expects about 30,000 Hasidic pilgrims who will come to celebrate the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah).
The United Jewish Community of Ukraine reported this with reference to the Charitable Foundation "Historical and Cultural Center of the City of Uman".
Previously, Ukraine expected up to 50,000 pilgrims to Uman, but the pilgrims' plans were affected, in particular, by the escalation in northern Israel.
"This year, due to the escalation in the north of Israel, a number of airlines canceled the flights that the Hasidic pilgrims were supposed to use to reach European countries in order to get to Ukraine. Although the interested parties are looking for a way out of this situation, a significant part of the thousands of pilgrims who want to get to Uman will not be able to do so," the message says.
Despite the war in Ukraine, more than 35,000 pilgrims came to Uman last year.
In 2024, Rosh Hashanah will be celebrated on October 2-4.
Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Hasidim to refrain from the pilgrimage to Uman due to the aggression of the russian federation.
Besides, the Migration Service and law enforcement officers are moving to an increased mode of operation due to the arrival of Hasidim in Uman.
Meanwhile, a special entry regime was introduced in Uman due to the arrival of Hasidim.
