About 100 Ukrainian civilians who refuse to evacuate remain in the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk Region, near which hostilities are ongoing.
Vadym Filashkin, the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, told about this on the air of the national telethon.
"The situation around Vuhledar has become very serious. The Russians are trying to surround the city, which has become a real fortress for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are major tank battles going on there, the enemy is trying to break through the defenses, but now the Russians are trying to surround the city," he said.
Filashkin noted that Ukrainian forces are repelling attempts by russian sabotage and intelligence groups to break into the city.
The head of the Regional Military Administration said that it is difficult to bring humanitarian aid into the city, because the russians are shooting all the ways.
"There are about a hundred people in the city who do not want to evacuate. It is very difficult to bring in humanitarian aid, because the enemy is shelling all available routes. They are using all types of weapons: tanks, artillery, drones."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Forbes analyst stated that the situation on the front line in the Vuhledar District of the Donetsk Region is becoming threatening for the Armed Forces. The occupiers are trying to surround the units of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is greatly exhausted by the two-year defense of the city.
In early September, ISW analysts explained why the russians are intensifying attacks in the direction of Vuhledar and Kurakhove.
