Ukraine rises to 20th place in Worldsteel rating by steel production volume in 8M

Ukraine has risen to the 20th place in the ranking of the Worldsteel international association by the volume of steel production in the first eight months of 2024.

This follows from a statement by the Ukrmetalurgprom association, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

According to the statement, according to the results of production in the first eight months of 2024, Ukraine took the 20th position among 71 steel-producing countries with a result of 5.27 million tons, up 30.8% year over year.

The first place traditionally belongs to China: Chinese metallurgists smelted 691.41 million tons, down 3.3% year over year.

China's share in world steel production is 55.3%.

The second place belongs to India (up 6.5% to 98.5 million tons), the third place - to Japan (down 2.9% to 56.7 million tons), the fourth place - to the U.S. (down 1.7% to 53.8 million tons), the fifth – to russia (down 4.9% to 48.5 million tons), the sixth – to South Korea (down 5.5% to 42.5 million tons), the seventh – to Germany (up 4% to 25.4 million tons), eighth – to Türkiye (up 14.8% to 24.8 million tons), ninth – to Brazil (up 3.8% to 22.4 million tons), and tenth - to Iran (up 1.9% to 19.8 million tons).

In the first eight months of 2024, global steel production amounted to 1,251.07 million tons, down 1.54% year over year.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine took 23rd place in the Worldsteel ranking in terms of steel production in 2023.
