Nausėda calls for reform of UN Security Council due to inability to restore peace in Ukraine

The President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, declared the need to reform the UN Security Council due to its lack of reaction to the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine.

Nausėda wrote about it on X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote that today at the UN Future Summit he stated the need to return to an international order based on rules, which would mean supporting Ukraine in its fight against the russian federation.

"Lack of multilateral response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has put forward serious doubts about #UN's ability to maintain global peace& security. Significant reforms of the Security Council are clearly needed. The UN must be empowered to stop& contain the aggressors!" he said in his message.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on September 17, the UN stated that the organization does not intend to send representatives to the part of the Kursk Oblast under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as this requires russia's permission.

We also wrote that in June, the U.S. stated that russia was using the UN Security Council to divert attention from the Peace Summit regarding Ukraine.
