Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal notes that this year's wheat harvest is almost 4 times higher than its consumption in the country.
Shmyhal announced this at a government meeting, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to him, Ukrainian farmers have already collected about 40 million tons of new harvest.
"This year's wheat harvest amounted to about 22 million tons. Domestic consumption - about 6 million tons. That is, Ukraine collected almost four times more wheat than domestic consumption. This allows us to remain the guarantor of food security for many countries," Shmyhal noted.
According to him, the government continues to help Ukrainian farmers and producers in various directions.
"Since the beginning of the year, UAH 31.5 billion of affordable loans have been issued under the "5-7-9" program for almost 6,500 farms... The compensation program for farmers for the purchase of agricultural machinery of Ukrainian production is in operation. In the first 4 months of operation of this program, more than 850 units of equipment were already purchased for more than UAH 900 million. The agricultural land demining market is also gaining momentum. We already have applications for the demining of almost 5,000 plots with a total area of more than 21,000 hectares,” Shmyhal said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of September 20, agricultural enterprises harvested 31.9 million tons of grain, 11 million tons of oil crops, and 1.7 million tons of sugar beet from an area of 12.5 million hectares.
