Detonation of ammunition depot in Tver Oblast causes series of earthquakes

A series of earthquakes occurred as a result of the detonation of ammunition at the ammunition depot of the russian army in the town of Toropets, Tver Oblast.

This was reported by the Volcanodiscovery monitoring service.

The first tremor with a magnitude of 2.8 was recorded near Toropets at 03:56 a.m. Another earthquake with a similar force occurred at 04:23 a.m.

After that, the monitoring service recorded fourteen more aftershocks, the magnitude of which ranged from 2 to 2.7 points.

The cause of the tremors was the detonation of ammunition at the 107th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate. Tonight it was attacked by Ukrainian drones.

As Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), wrote, the warehouse in Toropets could store 122-mm shells for the Grad multiple-launch rocket systems, 82-mm mortar mines, ammunition for S-300/400 air defense systems, and Iskander-M ballistic missiles.

According to him, on the territory of the arsenal, the russians began to create a stockpile of KN-23 ballistic missiles supplied from North Korea.

As the russian online publication ASTRA writes, satellites of the NASA agency recorded heat signatures throughout the arsenal, which indicates a large-scale fire.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 18, russian mass media reported that Ukrainian drones attacked an ammunition warehouse in Toropets. As a result of the attack, detonation began, residents of several surrounding settlements are being evacuated.
