On the night of Tuesday, September 17, russian troops launched 51 Shahed attack drones on the territory of Ukraine, the air defense forces managed to shoot down 34 drones, the rest were lost or returned to russia.
The Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on its Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"On the night of September 17, 2024 (from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), radio engineering troops of the Air Forces detected and escorted 51 strike UAVs from the directions: Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk - russian federation, Cape Chauda - TOT of Crimea," the statement says.
It is noted that as a result of the anti-aircraft battle, 34 attack UAVs were shot down.
In addition, as a result of the active countermeasures of the EW means of the Defense Forces, 12 UAVs were locally lost in several regions of Ukraine (information about casualties and destruction was not received); two more enemy attack drones returned to russia.
Air defense worked in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Sumy, Poltava and Kharkiv Regions.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups and units of the EW of the Air Forces and other components of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of Monday, September 16, the russians launched 56 Shahed attack drones over the territory of Ukraine, the air defense forces managed to shoot down 53 drones, and 3 drones were lost.
