Ukraine asking UN and ICRC to join humanitarian response in Kursk Oblast

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the United Nations (UN) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to join the humanitarian response in the districts of the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation that are under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced this in a statement.

Thus, the department noted that from the first days of the Kursk operation, the Defense Forces of Ukraine demonstrated high professionalism and full compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law. In particular, civilians in the territory of the Kursk Oblast received and are receiving humanitarian aid, satisfaction of basic humanitarian needs, and the opportunity to leave the areas of hostilities.

"Ukraine, observing all norms and principles of international humanitarian law and human rights, exercising effective control over certain districts of the Kursk Oblast, steadfastly adheres to international obligations in the field of international humanitarian law, in particular regarding the protection of the civilian population during hostilities," the message says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine appealed to the United Nations to join the humanitarian response measures in the specified territory and sent a corresponding note to the UN, taking into account the humanitarian situation and the need to properly ensure fundamental human rights in the territory of the Kursk Oblast.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sent a note to the International Committee of the Red Cross, as the guarantor of international humanitarian law, with a request to also join humanitarian response measures and monitor compliance with the principles of international humanitarian law in accordance with the 1949 Geneva Convention for the Protection of the Civilian Population in Time of War.

"Ukraine confirms its unwavering compliance with international obligations in the mentioned areas and is ready to provide comprehensive assistance to the activities of UN and ICRC employees in the specified territories," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that civilians in the Kursk Oblast of the russian federation are provided with all the necessary medical assistance, and they are also provided with food and drinking water.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of the operation of the Ukrainian forces in the Kursk Oblast, the authorities of the russian federation have not created humanitarian corridors that would allow the evacuation of civilians.
