Ukraine will not face catastrophe with electricity this winter - Kudrytskyi

Former head of the Ukrenergo national energy company, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, believes that Ukraine will not face a catastrophe with electricity this winter.

He told about this in an interview with Economic Pravda, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"In my opinion, the vision that we are approaching some kind of disaster, that we are not aware of, is not true. At least, I do not think that we are heading for some kind of disaster this winter," Kudrytskyi said.

In his opinion, during the warm periods of winter, Ukraine will be able to do without power outages.

"My forecast is in the middle. In the warm periods of winter, when the temperature will be above 0, we can do without power outages. Again, if there are no remarks on the generation facilities, for example for 1,000 or 2,000 megawatts. And if there is some cold period, well, for example minus 10 average daily temperature, I don't see how the deficit can be covered. We may have a situation with outages similar to during the heat in summer," Kudrytskyi said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukraine is negotiating with partners to increase the possibility of importing electricity from 1.7 to 2.2 GW of installed capacity.
