Cabinet suggests Rada allow foreigners hold officer positions in AFU

The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to the Verkhovna Rada to allow foreigners to serve in the military as officers.

This is stated in bill No. 12023, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

It is proposed to provide an opportunity for foreigners and stateless persons to undergo military service as officers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard of Ukraine.

The explanatory note states that the development of the bill is related to the need to improve the legislation on military service in terms of enabling foreigners and stateless persons to serve as officers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service and the National Guard of Ukraine.

"The need to improve the legislation arose in connection with the complex operational situation that has developed on the front lines and requires a significant increase in the number of combat personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, both by conducting additional mobilization measures and by involving them on a voluntary basis military service under the contract of all those willing, who have the relevant military accounting specialties and combat experience, including among foreigners and stateless persons," the explanatory note on the need to allow foreigners to hold officer positions in the Armed Forces reads.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April 2022, the Rada allowed foreigners to work in the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense.
