President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that Ukraine, russia and the EU have appealed to Azerbaijan with the aim of preserving the transit of russian gas through the territory of russia and Ukraine.
He announced this during a speech at the International Forum in Cernobbio.
"Russia, Ukraine and European institutions contacted us in connection with the continuation of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine," the message reads.
According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan has been conducting negotiations for several months.
"It is known that if the transit stops, and it will happen in December, several countries of the European Union will face serious difficulties with the physical availability of natural gas. We just want to support these countries and Ukraine, because if the transit of gas stops, then the gas distribution system of Ukraine will be completely paralyzed," he added.
Aliyev also noted that, in fact, through the mediation of Azerbaijan, both countries are conducting negotiations on the continuation of the transit of russian gas and the supply of Azerbaijani gas through russia and Ukraine to Europe.
Commenting on the position regarding the russian war against Ukraine, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan maintains friendly relations with Ukraine and russia.
"We firmly support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and all countries. But at the same time, we were not and will not be part of the anti-russian sanctions campaign," the message reads.
