The International Monetary Fund (IMF) demands that Ukraine raise taxes.
Bloomberg writes about this with reference to Ukrainian officials, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
This week, the IMF mission began its work on reviewing Ukraine's lending program.
It is noted that among the topics of discussion are the devaluation of the hryvnia, the reduction of interest rates (including the discount rate), as well as the increase of taxes.
The publication notes that the IMF criticized the government's plan to raise several taxes as too soft and called on the government to consider increasing a wider range of taxes.
One possible proposal is to increase the value added tax from the current 20%.
On Tuesday, September 3, the Verkhovna Rada failed to raise taxes, but sent the bill to a repeated first reading.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the IMF requires Ukraine to devalue the hryvnia.
