Ukraine has agreed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to extend the Agency's monitoring mission to key substations on which the stable operation of nuclear power plants depends.
This was announced by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to the report, the mission will become operational next week.
IAEA Director Rafael Grossi noted that the agency will introduce a system of visits by its team to these substations, approve the frequency, make reports, etc.
"A very important question is how to protect those substations, which are key for nuclear generation. And even in the absence of direct attacks on nuclear facilities, when they attack those substations, it creates a nuclear threat. Therefore, I want to return to the request that we have already announced the creation of an IAEA mission for these key substations. In our view, these missions will help reduce the danger," noted Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a mass attack by the russians on August 26 led to the shutdown of four nuclear units.
