Swimmer Komarov wins first "gold" for Ukraine at Paralympic Games with record

Ukrainian swimmer Oleksandr Komarov has won the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle in the S5 class (swimmers with moderately impaired coordination, severely impaired movements in the middle part of the body and legs, or missing limbs).

Suspilne Sport reports this.

Oleksandr Komarov reached the finish line in 1:07.77 minutes — this is a new Paralympic record for the S5 class. The previous top result from London-2012 was kept by the Brazilian Daniel Dias — 1:09.35 minutes.

For Komarov, this is the second "gold" in his Paralympic career. In Rio 2016, as part of the Ukrainian national team, he triumphed in the 4x400 meter relay.

It should be noted that this is Komarov's second award in Paris: the day before, the Ukrainian won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle swimming.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, 140 Ukrainians will compete in 17 sports at the Paralympics in Paris, held from August 28 to September 8. The largest number of Ukrainian Paralympians will be represented in swimming (37). In addition, more than 23% of the members of our national team are debutants of the Paralympic Games.
