Exterior work on the damaged section of the "blue" subway line is coming to an end, and the improvement of the territory remains to be done. Internal work in the new part of the tunnel continues, so that subway traffic will resume in early autumn.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on Facebook.
"Restoration work on the stretch between the Demiivska and Lybidska subway stations is at the final stage. Today they started filling the pit with soil. Before that, the pit was filled with a special cement mixture around the renewed section of the tunnel, and three levels of its fastenings were almost dismantled. Soon they will carry out work on the improvement of the territory on the construction site," Vitali Klitschko said.
The mayor noted that restoration works are ongoing around the clock.
"The day before, experts completed the construction of a new section of the tunnel with a length of 27 meters. They also strengthened the sections adjacent to it on both sides (with a total length of more than 50 meters). Currently, they are completing the work on laying a new rail track. All necessary cable networks in the tunnel are being restored, and a contact rail, through which the voltage is supplied, is being mounted,” Klitschko said.
The resumption of subway traffic to Teremky is expected in early autumn.
"Before the full resumption of traffic, trial runs of trains will be carried out, as well as a thorough check of all traffic safety systems. We are doing everything to resume train traffic on the section at the beginning of autumn," Vitali Klitschko emphasized.
It was previously reported that, according to the final conclusions of the examination, the emergency situation on the "blue" subway line was caused by errors at the design stage and gross violations during the construction of this section more than 10 years ago.
