AFU operation in Kursk Oblast has almost no effect on situation in Donetsk Region - Zhorin

Deputy Commander of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Maksym Zhorin stated that the success of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast had practically no effect on the situation in the Donetsk Region.

Zhorin said this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.

Zhorin said that in the area of the front, where the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade operates, the servicemen of the brigade carried out successful counter-offensive actions of a local nature.

At the same time, according to him, an extremely difficult situation remains in other parts of the front. It remains the most critical on the Pokrovsk and Toretsk axes.

Zhorin stated that the withdrawal of units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine on these areas of the front is considered only as a last resort to save the lives of servicemen.

"War is always fought not for territories, but for the destruction of the enemy. As soon as the enemy is no longer in these territories, we will return them," Zhorin said.

He also said that the success of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk Oblast had no significant impact on the situation in the Donetsk Region.

According to him, the russians almost did not transfer their forces from the Donetsk Region to the Kursk Oblast to repel the offensive of the Armed Forces. The enemy, as before, has a sufficient number of reserves on the Pokrovsk axis.

Zhorin called the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast a success, but only as of today, as it is not clear how it is planned to end.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 20, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, stated that 92 settlements are under the control of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk Oblast.

Syrskyi also told what the further actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast will depend on.

Recall that on August 20, the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation announced the creation of three new groups of troops to protect the Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod Oblasts.

Besides, on August 18, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Drozdenko, called the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast the "first stage".
