Ukrainian Navy explains why russian submarines cannot be in Sea of Azov

The presence of submarines of the Black Sea Fleet in the waters of the Sea of Azov is impossible due to insufficient depth.

This was announced on the air of the United News nationwide telethon by the spokesman of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Captain 3rd Rank of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

"Most likely, these submarines (boats of the Black Sea Fleet - ed.) are mostly on duty in the eastern part of the Black Sea. As for the Sea of Azov, their stay there is practically impossible due to the shallow depth. There they can only be in a surface position and quite limited corridors," Pletenchuk said.

According to him, they also cannot be in the northern part of the Black Sea due to the lack of depth for their full use. When they go out to sea, they can most likely be in the eastern part.

"They don't risk passing by surface ships, they are mostly located at the Novorossiysk base station, and the presence in the sea is represented by a submarine. Usually it is one unit. When you see two, in most cases, it is a rotation," added the spokesman of the AFU Navy.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the russian submarine, which is a carrier of cruise missiles, is in the Black Sea, but russia is currently using it for patrolling.

Also, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that russian forces continue to use only submarines in the waters of the Black Sea.
