AFU starts using aviation in operations in Kursk Oblast – Forbes

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) began to use combat aviation to support ground units conducting a military operation in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor country of russia.

This was reported by Forbes with reference to several videos published online.

The publication writes that on Tuesday, August 13, several videos appeared on the Internet at once, showing how fighter jets of the AFU Air Force strike russian targets in the Kursk Oblast.

The planes used high-precision American-made JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) aerial bombs, attacking the russians near the settlement of Tyotkino, Kursk Oblast.

The attack on Tyotkino was the first evidence of the AFU's use of its combat aircraft in operations on the territory of the Kursk Oblast.

The publication called it remarkable that the Soviet Su-27 fighter jets took part in the airstrike and not the F-16 aircraft recently received by Ukraine.

F-16 fighters are also compatible with JDAM bombs, but probably the Ukrainian command decided not to risk American aircraft.

The high risk from russian air defense systems is evidenced by the fact that after dropping the bomb, the Su-27 lowered its altitude to several hundred meters above the ground. Both Ukrainian and russian pilots try to fly as low as possible to avoid detection by air defense radars.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 7, it became known that the Ukrainian military shot down a russian Mi-28 helicopter using an FPV drone in the Kursk Oblast.

This was probably the first such incident in history where an FPV drone was used to destroy a manned aerial vehicle.

Later, on August 9, it became known that a russian Mi-8 helicopter was also hit by an FPV drone in the Kursk Oblast.

And on August 10, russian military bloggers announced that the russian army had lost a Ka-52 helicopter in the Kursk Oblast.
