No excess levels of radioactive emissions and discharges recorded due to fire on territory of Zaporizhzhia NPP - Energy Ministry

Due to the fire on the territory of the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia Region), no excess levels of radioactive emissions and discharges were recorded.

This was announced by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"Around 8 p.m. on the territory of the nuclear plant, the occupiers started a fire at the technical water supply facility. As a result, the cooling tower and other technological equipment may be damaged. However, with the means we have, that is, monitoring systems, no emissions or discharges have been recorded so far radioactive substances," said Deputy Minister of Energy Svitlana Hrynchuk.

Also, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in order to find out the circumstances and causes of the event, the mission of the agency, which is on the spot, asks the russian occupiers to immediately provide access to the facility where the fire occurred, in order to assess the situation.

At the same time, the IAEA confirmed that the radiation level at the station remains unchanged.

"Once again, no emissions or discharges have been recorded yet. Therefore, let's hope that this situation will not develop in the direction of some man-made catastrophe," Hrynchuk said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Monday morning the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Lysak, announced that the fire at the russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP had stopped.

On the evening of August 11, in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Region, they announced a large-scale fire that started on the territory of the russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia NPP.

According to Yevhen Yevtushenko, the head of the Nikopol District Military Administration, the occupiers probably stacked car tires on one of the cooling towers and set them on fire.

Almost immediately after the start of the fire, the occupiers announced that the Zaporizhzhia NPP was allegedly fired upon by the Ukrainian military.
