The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine stated that the number of killed and injured civilians in Ukraine in July this year was the highest since October 2022.
This is stated in the organization's report, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The report said at least 219 civilians were killed and 1,018 injured in attacks in July, the highest number since October 2022, when 317 civilians were killed and 795 were injured.
At the same time, the largest number of casualties was recorded on July 8, when the russian armed forces struck targets in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk Region) and the Kyiv Region with high-precision missiles.
According to the UN Monitoring Mission, in total, during the attacks on July 8, at least 43 civilians were killed, including 5 children, and 147 were injured, including 7 children.
At the same time, the largest number of casualties among civilians was caused when a missile or fragments of a missile shot down by air defense hit a residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi District of Kyiv (13 killed and 20 wounded), a business center in the Solomianskyi District of Kyiv (6 killed and 10 wounded), a medical center in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv (9 killed and 5 wounded), the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv (2 killed and 18 wounded), and administrative buildings of a repair and mechanical plant in Kryvyi Rih (10 killed, 46 wounded).
In general, the vast majority of casualties among the civilian population (90%) and damage to educational and medical institutions (86%), as before, falls on the territory controlled by Ukraine.
In particular, the July 8 attack destroyed or damaged several medical facilities throughout Ukraine, including a missile hitting the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital, completely destroying the building of a toxicology department.
The UN Monitoring Mission also concluded that it was a direct hit on the hospital complex, and not falling debris from the interception of the missile by an air defense system.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on August 9, the enemy launched an airstrike on the city of Kostiantynivka, preliminarily with a Kh-38 missile; as a result of a hit into a local shopping center, 14 people, including 2 children, were killed, 43 people were injured.
