China has said it will ban the export of all civilian unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used for military or terrorist purposes.
It was reported by the Associated Press and Bloomberg agencies on Wednesday, July 31.
China has also announced that some functions of unmanned aerial vehicles will be limited due to Western criticism.
"The Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday in a statement the decision was made to also prevent the use of drones in “the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Aspects such as infrared imaging lasers for target designation and high-precision inertial measurement equipment will be placed on the export control list," the statement said.
Drones with high-precision measurement equipment were blacklisted by a number of agencies, including the Central Military Commission on Wednesday, July 31. The changes will take effect on September 1. U.S. media and government intelligence have frequently reported that russia is purchasing drones from China for military use.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, an official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China stated that the Chinese authorities have adjusted export control measures regarding unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
In January-June 2024, approximately 608,000 new civilian UAVs were registered in China, which is 48% more than the figure registered at the end of 2023.
