Ukraine plans to transfer construction of Kaniv HEPP underground - Ukrhydroenergo

Ukraine plans to make changes to the construction of the Kaniv Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) and move it underground.

Ihor Syrota, the director general of the Ukrhydroenergo power generation company, said this in an interview with LIGA.net on Wednesday, July 31.

According to him, power plants and hydroelectric power plants provide coverage of peak loads, frequency and power regulation, mobile emergency reserve in the power system. Ukraine needs to build hydroelectric power plants because they can "consume" excess electricity from other stations and feed it into the grid as needed, Syrota said.

"We are making changes to the construction project of the Kaniv HEPP. It must be inaccessible to the enemy. That is why there are plans to build it underground. We must build such an infrastructure that it will be sustainable," the director general of Ukrhydroenergo emphasized.

Currently, Ukrhydroenergo is working on the protection and preparation of facilities for winter, as no energy system in the world has experienced such challenges and requires maximum reinforcement, Syrota emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 15, Syrota said that the russians will not be able to destroy the Kyiv HEPP.

On July 18, Ukrhydroenergo agreed with LLC MVP Energorishennia on the construction of protective structures at the Kaniv Hydroelectric Power Plant (Cherkasy Region) for UAH 571.2 million.

Ukrhydroenergo includes the Kyiv HEPP, Kyiv PSPP, Kaniv HEPP, Kremenchuk HEPP, Seredniodniprovska HEPP, Dniprovska HEPP, Dnistrovska HEPP, Dnistrovska PSPP, and Kakhovka HEPP.
