Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has condemned the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics over a scene that critics say parodied Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting The Last Supper.
This was reported by the Fox News TV channel.
Trump said he is an open-minded person who respects freedom of thought and action, but not in the case of the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris.
"I actually think the opening ceremony was a disgrace... I mean, they can do certain things. I think it's terrible. Look, I'm all for everybody. I'm very open-minded... but I think what they did is a disgrace," Trump said.

At the same time, the director of the opening ceremony, Thomas Jolly, explained that "The Last Supper" was not his inspiration for the scene that caused criticism. According to him, the god of wine and feasts in Greek mythology, Dionysus, was on the table. The idea was to hold a pagan festival associated with the gods of Olympus: "You will never find in me the desire to mock and denigrate anyone. I wanted to hold a ceremony that would restore, reconcile and also confirm the values of our Republic: liberty-equality-brotherhood," Jolly stressed.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the American rapper and actor Snoop Dogg ran with the Olympic torch through the streets of Paris on the eve of the opening of the Olympic Games.
At the same time, the American singer Lady Gaga angered the French with her performance at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
Also, Italian track and field athlete, 2020 Olympic high jump champion Gianmarco Tamberi apologized to his wife for accidentally drowning his wedding ring in the Seine during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
