Lubinets appeals to UN because of russia’s destruction of Tauric Chersonese in Crimea

Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, said that he appealed to the United Nations because of the destruction by the russians of Tauric Chersonese in the occupied Crimea.

Lubinets announced this on his official Telegram channel.

"This is another crime on the part of the aggressor country and its destruction of the cultural heritage of Ukraine. We need the reaction of the international community, because history is being destroyed before our eyes," wrote Lubinets.

He reminded that the object "Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora" is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

At the same time, since 2014, the russians have begun a large-scale operation to destroy Ukrainian cultural heritage.

Lubinets emphasized that the international community did not respond to the crimes of the russians for 10 years.

After the actual destruction of Tauric Chersonese, the russians began to build a so-called historical and archaeological park on its site.

"The developers blocked the archaeological remains that were on the surface with viewing platforms, several excavated objects were moved and rebuilt in another place. An amphitheater was built on the site of the ancient citadel, which puts a strain on the original structure," wrote Lubinets.

In addition, many archaeological finds were stolen by the invaders and taken to the territory of russia.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the summer of 2013, UNESCO included Tauric Chersonese in the list of World Cultural Heritage.

Recall that in 2016, UNESCO refused to recognize the Tauric Chersonese as russian.
