Ukraine is conducting negotiations with Moldova on the issue of the return to their homeland of Ukrainians liable for military service, who illegally crossed the border in order to avoid being mobilized.
According to Newsmaker, Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Marko Shevchenko said this on the air of the Moldovan television channel TV8.
According to Shevchenko, the legislative and legal framework regarding refugees in the European Union and Moldova is not adapted to the situation that Ukraine faced.
He noted that none of the developed procedures anticipated a full-scale war in the 21st century, the appearance of millions of refugees and those who are popularly called "evaders".
Shevchenko added that Ukraine conducts a "certain dialogue" with the authorities of Moldova regarding the return of men of conscription age.
The Ambassador also said that some Ukrainian men who illegally cross the border do not receive asylum in Moldova.
"In this regard, I have a question - where are the rest whom Moldova did not consider it possible to provide asylum? Were they detained? No. Did they return home? No. They either simply stay on the territory of Moldova or go further. This situation speaks that there are problems that need to be solved," Shevchenko said.
According to him, such people do not deserve protection in Moldova, but at the same time they are not going to return to Ukraine and no one is forcing them to do so.
He noted that such nuances happen quite often.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in March of this year, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova, Adrian Efros, stated that Chisinau wants to help Kyiv in returning men liable for military service.
We will remind you that earlier in February, the authorities of Moldova extended the period of granting temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine.
