For January-June, expenditures of the general fund of the state budget on security and defense amounted to UAH 888.4 billion, or 57.5% of the total amount of expenditures of the general fund of the state budget.
This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Finance on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"UAH 155.6 billion were used from the state budget in June for the security and defense sector. For January-June 2024, expenditures of the general fund of the state budget for this sector amounted to UAH 888.4 billion (57.5% of the total amount of expenditures of the general fund of the state budget)," the message says.
In particular, the funds were directed to:
financial support for military personnel and police officers;
purchase of military/special equipment, weapons, ammunition, defense products, personal protective equipment (helmets, body armor and other special equipment), fuel and lubricants, food products;
medical care.
The Ministry of Finance emphasizes that security and defense remain an absolute priority and the largest item of state budget expenditures.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in July, the Cabinet of Ministers proposed to the Verkhovna Rada to increase defense and security spending by UAH 495.3 billion, for this purpose it proposes to raise taxes by a total of UAH 140 billion by the end of the year.
In June, the head of the Verkhovna Rada's budget committee, Roksolana Pidlasa (Servant of the People faction), said that a USD 5 billion "hole" in the state budget for 2024 needs to be closed in order to pay military aid in full and on time.
The state budget for 2024 provides for defense and security of UAH 1.7 trillion, or 21.6% of GDP.
