British intelligence reveals number of russian Guardsmen in Ukraine and their tasks

British intelligence has reported that there are more than 30,000 soldiers of the Rosgvardiya (russian National Guard) in Ukraine. At the same time, they are present not only in the rear, but also on the front line.

This is stated in the intelligence update of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

"It is highly likely that over 30,000 Rosgvardiya (russian National Guard) personnel are currently deployed to Ukraine. The majority of Rosgvardiya’s personnel are almost certainly conducting rear security operations, with only a few units engaging in frontline fighting,” the report said.

It is indicated that the main combat unit of the russian Guard, the 116th Special Purpose Brigade, highly likely consists of 3 regiments and is armed with tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery.

According to British intelligence, since the beginning of 2024, the russian Guard has almost certainly tried to increase its frontline forces by absorbing russian irregular formations. In particular, during May 2024, the russian Guard successfully integrated the "Vostok" battalion of the so-called "DNR" into its ranks.

"It is highly likely that the anticipated agreement for Wagner forces to serve under Rosgvardiya’s 1st Volunteer Corps broke down in March 2024," added the intelligence.
