Bill on 15% military levy on purchase of new passenger cars caused unprecedented uproar in car market - Auto-Consulting

Government bill No. 11416 "On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine and other laws of Ukraine regarding the peculiarities of taxation during the period of martial law", which provides for the introduction of a 15% military levy on the purchase of new passenger cars, caused an unprecedented stir in the car market.

Auto-Consulting writes about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

According to Oleh Nazarenko, Director General of the All-Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers, buyers bought all the cars from car dealerships on Friday, July 19, and the first half of Saturday.

"Car showrooms are empty. Buyers are trying to quickly buy the cars that are available in order to avoid paying an additional 15% of the new tax. But this effect will not last long, because then sales will stop and instead of increasing the filling of the budget, the government will receive a decrease," he believes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 18, the Cabinet of Ministers approved bills proposing to raise taxes by a total of UAH 140 billion by the end of the year, and increase spending on defense and security forces by UAH 495.3 billion.

In particular, it is proposed to establish a military levy of 15% on the purchase of new passenger cars by enterprises, institutions and organizations, and individuals, except in cases of providing passenger cars to persons with disabilities.
