Hetmantsev tells how much prices for gasoline and diesel will rise

Verkhovna Rada member from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy Danylo Hetmantsev has said that the increase in excise duty on gasoline and diesel will be within the range of UAH 1.5-2 per liter.

He told journalists about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"We predict that the increase in the excise tax on gasoline will be somewhere between UAH 1.5 and UAH 2 for gasoline and diesel. And this is the contribution that you and I will make to the financing of the army," he said about the law passed today on raising prices for fuel.

Hetmantsev explained that the Rada’s decision provided for a timetable for increasing excise taxes until 2028 with the aim of equating these excise taxes on fuel with excise taxes in effect in the European Union.

"The country desperately needs money to finance the army. And even today, people who criticize know this very well, there is no alternative either to raise excise taxes or not to raise excise taxes. There is an alternative either to pay salaries to the military or not to pay salaries to the military. Exactly therefore, the government is consolidating all the reserves that we have today and, accordingly, mobilizing this money, directs it to the army," he explained regarding the need to increase the excise tax.

According to him, the adopted bill will bring UAH 2.7 billion to the budget in 2024 every month.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada has increased excise duties on fuel within the framework of bringing the tax legislation of Ukraine on excise tax into compliance with the legislation of the European Union.
