Joe Biden tested positive for coronavirus

On Wednesday, July 17, U.S. President Joe Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19, CNN reports.

Biden reportedly tested positive after his first event in Las Vegas, where he was later scheduled to speak at the annual UnidosUS conference. The White House confirmed the information and noted that Biden is vaccinated and has mild symptoms of the disease.

"The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, including rhinorrhea (runny nose) and a nonproductive cough, with general malaise," according to a note from Biden's doctor, provided by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

The White House's confirmation followed a statement from UnidosUS CEO Janet Murguía after Biden was an hour and a half late for his scheduled speech.

"I was just on the phone with President Biden. And he shared his deep disappointment in not being able to join us this afternoon. The president has been to a lot of events, as we all know, and he just tested positive for Covid," Murguía said.

CNN added that the U.S. President will be in self-isolation at a residence in Delaware and will continue to perform the duties of the head of state.

Biden confirmed to X that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon but is doing well. He thanked everyone for their good wishes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Biden previously explained his unsuccessful performance at the debate with Donald Trump by the fact that he felt bad after a series of flights and changing time zones.

According to American media, influential Democrats sent a letter to Biden with a request to withdraw from the election.

Meanwhile, Biden said he is ready to withdraw from the presidential talks if he has serious health problems.
