Latvia and Germany agree to jointly purchase drones for Ukraine

Latvia and Germany have agreed to jointly purchase drones for Ukraine.

Delfi has informed about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

It is noted that at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Washington, Latvia and Germany agreed to deepen cooperation within the drone coalition to secure orders for drones in support of Ukraine.

"Within the drone coalition, an initiative will be implemented to provide Ukraine with reconnaissance drones, armored drones, drones equipped with artificial intelligence, as well as means of protection against drones. This can be achieved by inviting other members of the coalition to conclude contracts with drone manufacturers in Latvia and Germany," said Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds.

During the NATO summit, members of the drone coalition signed a memorandum of understanding to coordinate cooperation, develop drone technologies and use them both to support Ukraine and to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Alliance member states.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Latvia will hand over 2,500 drones to Ukraine in July.
