During the evening and night from July 11 to 12, Ukrainian air defense destroyed five enemy missiles and 11 attack UAVs.
This was announced on the morning of July 12 by the commander of the Air Force/Lieutenant General, Mykola Oleshchuk, the press service of the command reports.
"On the evening of July 11, 2024, the occupiers attacked from strategic planes with 5 Kh-101 air-based cruise missiles (launched from the Saratov Oblast, russia), and during the night - 19 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs and unspecified drones from the districts of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, russia. The main direction of the attack is Starokostiantyniv," the message says.
It is noted that as a result of anti-aircraft combat, missiles were shot down in Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions. Also, anti-aircraft defense shot down 11 Shaheds and unmanned aerial vehicles of an unknown type in the Mykolayiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kherson, and Sumy Regions.
"The track of the remaining eight drones has been lost. Presumably, the enemy is using simulators of attack UAVs in order to overload the air defense. There was no information about casualties and destruction. In case of detection of suspicious objects, please do not take any action on your own, but urgently report their location to the police, the State Emergency Service, or local administration," added the Air Force commander.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, overnight into July 11, russians hit the Sumy Region with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles launched from the Kursk Oblast.
Meanwhile, the former spokesperson of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Yurii Ihnat said that Ukrainian mobile fire groups are now unable to reach and shoot down enemy drones due to the fact that they have become resistant to EW. Also, according to him, the russians launch missiles and drones at extremely low altitudes, which makes it difficult to shoot them down.
