Ukrainians in Poland are en masse signing up for the volunteer battalion to join the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski stated this at the NATO Public Forum within the framework of the Alliance summit in Washington, Hromadske Radio reported.
"In Poland, we are starting to prepare the first Ukrainian brigade consisting of volunteers in Poland. We have up to a million Ukrainians of both sexes, and several thousand of them have already registered to participate in this call up. And what is interesting, many of them really want to serve and rotate their compatriots, but they say: we don't want to be sent into battle without being properly trained and equipped," Sikorski said.
According to him, Poland will train and equip the volunteers, after which this unit of fighters will be transferred to Ukraine with the right to return to Poland after the rotation. Sikorski emphasized that Ukraine would have several similar brigades if every country in Europe did the same.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of May 2024, the ratio of volunteers and those mobilized who joined the army in Ukraine was one to three.
