Ukraine wants to hold a second peace summit before the U.S. presidential elections, this time with the participation of russia.
This follows from a statement by the Bloomberg agency with reference to Ukrainian officials and U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
Kyiv wants to convene a second meeting, already with the participation of russia, in order to achieve a fair and peaceful settlement in Ukraine before the elections in the United States, which will be held in November. Several officials from some Western allies said any meeting should be carefully orchestrated, with clear goals and expectations. However, some U.S. officials are not sure that such a summit with russia and Ukraine will take place, the agency noted.
"The push to organize a meeting before the U.S. election indicates a sense of urgency on the part of Ukraine, which is facing the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House. The presumptive Republican presidential nominee has boasted that he would end the war by the time of his inauguration in January and opposed continuing the military support of Kyiv from the United States," the article says.
Some countries of the Global South did not join the first Summit, and some of those who attended refused to sign the final declaration. China generally insists that russia should participate in the negotiations, Bloomberg emphasizes.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 17, the advisor to the head of the President's Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that the aggressor country, russia, may be invited to the second Peace Summit.
On June 21, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva said that Ukraine wants to hold the second Peace Summit by the end of this year.
We will remind you that Ukraine has already started preparations for the second Peace Summit, to which russia may be invited.
