President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated the leader of the Labor Party, the future Prime Minister of the country, Keir Starmer, on his convincing victory in the elections in Great Britain and expressed hope for close cooperation in strengthening the Ukrainian-British partnership and restoring international peace and security.
Zelenskyy announced this on X, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Congratulations to Keir Starmer and the Labor Party on their convincing victory in the elections. Ukraine and the United Kingdom have been and will remain reliable allies in everything. We will continue to defend and promote our shared values of life, liberty, and the rules-based international order," he wrote.
Zelenskyy wished the new government success both in internal affairs and in strengthening Great Britain's leadership on the world stage and expressed hope for close cooperation in strengthening the Ukrainian-British partnership and restoring international peace and security.
Zelenskyy also thanked British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who conceded defeat in the election, for the British government's steadfast support of Ukraine under his leadership, noting that Challenger tanks, Storm Shadow missiles, training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots, and the first bilateral agreement on cooperation in the field of security - these are only some of the joint achievements that Ukraine will never forget.
Sunak admitted that his Conservative Party lost the parliamentary elections on July 4.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 12, Ukraine agreed with Great Britain on security guarantees.
Great Britain became the first country with which Ukraine concluded such a document to implement the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, dated July 12, 2023.
