In May, the aggregate state (direct and secured) debt of Ukraine compared to the previous month decreased by 0.3%, or by USD 0.53 billion, to USD 150.99 billion.
This follows from a statement by the Ministry of Finance, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
State and state-secured debt at the end of May amounted to UAH 6,115.26 billion, or USD 150.99 billion, against UAH 6,010.42 billion, or USD 151.52 billion, a month earlier.
The total amount of direct government debt as of the reporting date was UAH 5,797.76 billion (USD 143.15 billion) against UAH 5,699.54 billion (USD 143.68 billion) a month earlier.
At the same time, the direct foreign debt increased from USD 102.25 billion to USD 102.75 billion for the month.
Direct domestic debt decreased in hryvnia, equivalent from UAH 1,643.48 billion to UAH 1,636.30 billion (in dollar equivalent - from USD 41.43 billion to USD 40.40 billion).
The state-secured debt at the end of the reporting month amounted to UAH 317.5 billion, or USD 7.84 billion.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the total state (direct and secured) debt of Ukraine for 2023 increased by 30.4% or USD 33.87 billion to a record USD 145.32 billion.
In 2022, the total state debt increased by USD 13.39 billion, or 13.66%, to USD 111.34 billion.
In 2021, the state debt increased by 8.52%, or by USD 7.69 billion, to USD 97.95 billion.
In 2020, the total state debt increased by 6.9%, from USD 84.4 billion to USD 90.3 billion.
