EUR 412 million are needed to repair the arch at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chornobyl NPP). This is announced in a statement by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"According to preliminary estimates, EUR 412 million are needed to fully repair the arch. The work should be carried out by 2030, given the existing risks of corrosion damage to metal structures, which may further complicate the restoration of the NSC functionality," the statement says.

The Ministry of Energy reports that the Assembly of Donors of the International Cooperation Account has decided to reallocate EUR 30 million from the administrative budget for the preparation of the necessary engineering solutions and the early purchase of equipment necessary to restore the functionality of the New Safe Confinement (NSC).

During the meeting, the participants heard a final report on the consequences of the damage to the Arch and an engineering assessment of possible options for its restoration, and also considered a "roadmap" for restoration work.

The meeting also considered the Chornobyl NPP report on the urgent work carried out to avoid depressurization and further destruction of the arch and the results of the IAEA mission to support the restored NSC.

The participants also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination to mobilize additional assistance, in particular by attracting new donors, expanding international partnerships, and ensuring sustainable financing of restoration work.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 1.6 billion to support the safe operation of power units and the shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

In February 2025, a russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter covering the destroyed Unit 4 at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, damaging the integrity of the outer shell of the New Safe Confinement and equipment in the crane maintenance garage.
