US suspended arms supplies to Ukraine due to repelling of Iran's attack on air base in Qatar – Defense Express
The reason for the suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine by the United States of America was the reduction in available missiles for the Patriot air defense system, probably due to the repelling of Iran's attack on the American Al Udeid air base in Qatar on the night of June 23, 2025.
This is reported by Defense Express.
Thus, according to insider information from a number of Western publications, the suspension of aid to the Ukrainian army, which lasted a week, occurred due to the fact that the number of missiles available for the Patriot air defense system for the American army decreased to a critical level.
"And with a high degree of probability, this happened due to the repelling of an Iranian ballistic missile attack on the Al Udeid airbase in Qatar on the night of June 23, 2025. Then, from 28 to 56 Patriot anti-aircraft missiles were used to intercept the threats, and this was the largest use of this air defense system in the US Army ever," Defense Express reports.
In addition, the publication suggests that the deployment of American Patriots in Israel is also likely, but only the THAAD battery is publicly known.
At the same time, the production rate of MSE Patriot missiles, which are used to intercept ballistic missiles, is 600 units per year, that is, 50 per month.
"And thus, just to repel this one known attack, the US Army used from 56% to 112% of the monthly production of MSE missiles," the publication noted, calling this a marker of the problem of a mismatch between needs and production capabilities.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in the meantime, Trump promised Zelenskyy in a telephone conversation to immediately send 10 Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine – fewer than planned in the suspended supply and to help find other ways of supply.
According to The Guardian, low stocks of critically important missiles for Patriot systems led to the administration of US President Donald Trump suspending their deliveries to Ukraine.
Recall that on July 2, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly reported in a comment to NBC News that the US had decided to stop the supply of some weapons to Ukraine.
