Romania allows shooting down russian drones that violate country's airspace

Interim President of Romania Ilie Bolojan has signed a decree authorizing the shooting down of drones that violate the country's airspace. This was reported by Digi24 on Monday, May 19, citing the presidential administration.

The publication writes that Bolojan signed a decree on conducting military missions and operations in peacetime on the territory of the Romanian state and a decree on the promulgation of the Law on Control over the Use of National Airspace.

"Interim President Ilie Bolojan has promulgated a law that allows the shooting down of drones in Romanian airspace, as well as a law on military missions and peacetime operations on the territory of the Romanian state," the report says.

The publication recalled that on February 26, the Romanian Senate adopted a decision to shoot down drones that illegally enter the country's airspace, as well as a legislative initiative to control the use of airspace.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 25, 2024, during the massive shelling of Ukraine, one of the russian missiles flew into the airspace of Moldova, after which it flew in the sky over Romania.

At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of Defense did not confirm that a russian missile was in the country's airspace on December 25.

On the night of April 29, one of the russian drones briefly violated Romanian airspace.
