Trump's statements about elections indicate his lack of awareness of situation in Ukraine - MP Merezhko

A member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko, believes that US President Donald Trump's statements about the need to hold elections in Ukraine indicate his lack of awareness of the situation in Ukraine.

He told Ukrainian News Agency about this.

"Trump spoke quite vaguely and incomprehensibly. That is, it is unclear when exactly he sees the need to hold elections in Ukraine: during the war or after the lifting of martial law? In general, these statements by Trump indicate that he is not very well-informed about what is happening at the moment," the MP believes.

Merezhko emphasizes the need for direct communication between Trump and Zelenskyy, as well as the importance of the work of the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington to present adequate arguments to the Trump team.

In his opinion, the arrival of the US President's Special Envoy to Ukraine and the russian federation, Keith Kellogg, gives hope that the Ukrainian side will be able to dispel all stereotypes and misunderstanding of the situation by Trump.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, emphasized that elections in Ukraine will be held only under national legislation and only after the end of martial law in the country.

US President Donald Trump said that elections should be held in Ukraine, since Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly has a very low level of support among citizens.
