President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that over the course of a month he had sent several letters, including to the EU and the US, and that an open letter had also been written to russian dictator vladimir putin. The Ukrainian President stated that the letter to putin had achieved the desired result.

He made these remarks during a press conference with the leaders of Northern European and Baltic countries in Tallinn.

"Over the course of a month, I sent several letters to various institutions, starting with the EU, the US (to Congress and the President), and also to Putin. I had different goals. For example, when writing to the United States, I really wanted to do everything possible to shift their focus, even just a little, from the Middle East to the situation in Ukraine," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that he cannot share all the details, but emphasized that Ukraine needs a very significant amount of anti-ballistic capabilities.

"I achieved a result, but I cannot share what that result was right now; however, I did achieve it," he added.

Speaking about the purpose of the open letter to putin, the President stated without elaborating: “I had a goal in mind when I sent the letter to Putin, and I think I achieved the result I needed.”

As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent an open letter to vladimir putin proposing to end the war through direct dialogue and to agree on a date for a meeting.

In response, putin stated that he had reviewed the letter and allegedly did not refuse to meet with Zelenskyy, but opposed discussions without a concrete outcome. The russian dictator called the letter “rude.” He also said that hostilities would end once russia had achieved its own goals.

Zelenskyy called putin’s reaction weak and stated the need to increase economic pressure on russia. The President also commented on putin’s claim that the letter was allegedly “rude.” According to Zelenskyy, there were two versions of the letter, and he chose the less harsh one.
