Zelenskyy says Ukraine ready to help Moldova with coal to resolve crisis in Transnistria
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine is ready to provide Moldova with the resources necessary to overcome the energy crisis that occurred in the territory of unrecognized Transnistria (PMR) due to the actions of the aggressor country russia.
The head of state said this in his traditional video address to Ukrainians.
Zelenskyy said that today he had several conversations with representatives of foreign countries, including Moldovan President Maia Sandu.
"Of course, the most important thing is to help Moldova get through a difficult period of energy challenges, to prevent Moscow from inflaming social tension," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Ukraine is ready to help Moldova with coal supplies. Probably, this refers to its use at the Cuciurgan power station, which is located in the territory of unrecognized Transnistria.
Zelenskyy stressed the importance of maintaining stability in Moldova and said that it is important to provide all residents of the country with the conditions to "live in peace and work for their country."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 1, 2025, the agreement between Ukraine and russia on the transit of russian gas to Europe, concluded in December 2019, expired in Ukraine. Ukraine's gas transportation system stopped pumping russian gas.
On the same day, water supply and heating to households were cut off in unrecognized Transnistria. Tiraspol stated that the cause of all this was the cessation of russian gas transit through Ukraine.
It should be noted that there is an alternative way to supply gas to Transnistria through the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream.
Recall that on January 2, the Moldovan authorities called russia's actions, which left the residents of Transnistria without gas and heat, blackmail.
Meanwhile, 75,000 homes in the unrecognized republic were left without gas, and supplies of firewood and coal would last for about 50 days. Later, it became known that widespread power outages and water supply disruptions had been introduced in Transnistria.
