Thus, according to a third source, the package includes air defense systems and artillery ammunition, but the exact contents will become known when the package is announced in the coming days. According to the sources, the cost of the package will be about USD 1.2 billion.

The State Department and the Pentagon declined to comment on the upcoming announcement, saying that they do not discuss security assistance packages before they are officially made public.

The publication noted that the USAI program provides for military equipment to be purchased from the defense industry or partners, rather than from American stocks, which means that its delivery to the battlefield could take months or years.

In total, since the start of russia's full-scale invasion, the United States has allocated USD 175 billion in aid to Ukraine, including approximately USD 61.4 billion in security assistance. About half came through the USAI program, and the rest was directed to be withdrawn from existing military stocks via presidential drawdown authority. The remaining presidential presidential drawdown authority is USD 5.6 billion.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, CNN, citing a senior Biden administration official, said that the administration is working to increase arms supplies to Ukraine in the last days of his tenure.

On December 13, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new package of weapons and equipment worth USD 500 million.
