Foreign Ministry denies information about Ukraine's plans to develop weapons of mass destruction

Media reports that Ukraine is allegedly seriously considering the possibility of restoring nuclear status were denied by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This is reported on Facebook.

"We officially refute the insinuations of unnamed sources in the Bild publication regarding Ukraine's alleged plans to develop weapons of mass destruction," commented the spokesman of the department, Heorhii Tykhyi.

He noted that Ukraine "was and remains" a loyal participant of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which it joined in 1994, giving up the world's third largest military nuclear potential.

"Ukraine is convinced that the NPT remains the cornerstone of the world architecture of international security. Despite ongoing russian aggression, Ukraine continues to adhere to the provisions of the NPT and remain a responsible participant in the international nuclear non-proliferation regime," Tykhyi said.

According to him, unlike the russian federation, Ukraine fulfills its obligations and "counts on their fulfillment by other responsible international actors."

"We call for the joint efforts of the world community in the implementation of the peace formula, in particular its first point - "Radiation and nuclear safety", summed up the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on September 25, russian dictator vladimir putin proposed to change russia's nuclear doctrine, allowing the use of nuclear weapons in the event of a mass drone attack on the russian federation.
