On the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day, former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych published his address to the Ukrainian people. In the address, the former head of state claims that Ukraine is now fully dependent on the U.S.-Russia relations.
Yuriy Kirasir, Press Secretary of Yanukovych, published the address on Facebook.
In his address, Yanukovych listed Ukraine’s achievements over the 30 years of the country’s independence. At the same time, the former president said that "refusal to have good neighborly relations" with Russia was the biggest mistake in the history of the country.
"I am deeply convinced that the biggest mistake in our 30-year history was not the deceived trust in Russia, but refusal to have good neighborly relations with it. A harmless, at first glance, phrase "If you are not jumping, you are a Moskal", designed to help demonstrators on Maidan keep warm, was in truth a signal to the start of the policy of permanent confrontation with it", — stated Yanukovych.
The former president believes that this has led to the war and the split of Ukrainian society. And now, the future of the country depends on the "condition of the U.S.-Russia relations".
Yanukovych also stated that the Ukrainians lived better during his presidency. That the people lived better during our tenure is a fact. And this fact is even more conspicuous, if you consider the current impoverishment of Ukrainians," says Yanukovych in his address.
